In 2011, Nigeria experienced a major flood disaster, the worst of its kind in over 40yrs, affecting over 30 states and leaving an estimated 7million people affected nationwide. Over 2.1m people were displaced from their homes. Most affected were women and children. GIPLC mobilized resources, donors and volunteers to support Benue and Kogi state with relief materials (cloths, mattresses bedsheets, pillows, food, medication, first aid items, etc. Through this intervention, GIPLC supported over 200 families with relief materials, food items and household items in their temporary camps during that period.
